Completed May 2011 |
Description of Project
8100m2 Kalzip smooth curved fully tapered roof.
1200m2 Aluminium rainscreen complete with smooth curved bespoke aluminium feature details and abutments.Gutters and rainwater discharge system.
Case Study:
Morgan Sindall plc engaged McKay Roofing Ltd. at the early stages of the structural and cladding design, whereby we were in a position to substantially contribute to overcoming the many steelwork structural tolerance issues associated with delivering a smooth curve roof and smooth curve metal rainscreen system to within 3mm tolerances.
During the early design involvement, MRL were also in a position to substantially contribute to many value engineering solutions, whilst at the same time maintaining the value of employing a quality Kalzip Standing Seam Roof System and high end CGL Rainscreen System, with 3mm thick aluminium perimeter features. This, as opposed to the typical savings by reducing the gauge of materials to the point where the system no longer meets the loading specification and life expectancy.
The end result, courtesy of a highly skilled, trained installation team, resulted in a snag-free handover with clinical precision curves and an aesthetic appearance that will stand the test of time.

Archial Ltd.
Commenced on site February 2011 |
Description of Project
8200m2 Kalzip standing seam including 1500m2 acoustic sound absorption, bespoke feature facade fascias and soffits.
1200m2 flat composite wall cladding integrated with zinc feature entrance. Incorporating all rainwater gutters and downpipes.
Case Study:
Currently underway with a completion date set for September 2011.
MRL were instrumental in reducing lead-in start times from 14 weeks down to 4 weeks, assisted by the ability of Kalzip suppliers to fast-track the supply of materials. As a result of this, the entire construction programme has benefited and is now ahead of schedule.
Currently, our designer (John McGhee) is detailing the bespoke features and interface details. Photos will be included upon their completion.

Completed May 2011 |
Description of Project
850M2 PVC Membrane Single Ply Roofing with Decor profile strips and 605M2 Marley Modern concrete interlocking tiles complete with battens.
Case Study: Due to the practical complexities of building on this extremely tight site with the railway on one side and the busy main street on the other, together with uncertain tolerances of the timber kit construction and the programmed sectional completion of the roof, innovative design solutions had to be developed.
Because of access restrictions, the lack of storage space, the site sizing requirements of timber kit construction and sectional completion requirements a metal standing seam roof was deemed impractical.
Working with the Architect and the Planners who were insisting on the standing seam effect McKay Roofing developed a bespoke solution of a Single Ply Roofing System with Profile Strips at 900mm centres which created the standing seam effect requested.
The advantages of this solution, because the material was delivered in rolls, were access and storage problems were minimised, any tolerance issues with the timbers were accommodated and the phasing of the roofing works did not present any practical problems.
The project was completed successfully on time, within budget and provided the Architect and the Planners with the desired architectural appearance.
